This project deals with the issue of identity. The identity of an Irsaeli, the identity of a community, the breaking down and reassembling of identities. Israel’s social fabric is made up of a majority of jewish immigrants who migrated to Israel during the previous century after world war II.  Upon the immigrants' arrival from all around the world, there was a growing need for a single and united cultural identity that the people would be able to unite upon and that that the young country could build up from. I myself am a daughter to a mother who’s family immigrated from Poland, and a father who’s family arrived from Yemen. This type of mixture is common amongst my generation due to the mingling of the different communities over the years. During the creation of this project I explored my two identities, what did I learn from one culture and what did I take from the other? Is there a superior culture and an inferior one? And the main question, in the world we live in today, is it still a meaningful parameter in my definition of my identity, and in the general definition of the israeli community.
The clothing line I designed was inspired by the cuts of traditional Yemeni clothes mixed with the tailored western suit. I imprinted electric fibers using the “vacuum forming” method, to represent the future and the technology, and onto that I added Handmade embroidery to represent the past, the roots and the tradition. In addition, the line is mostly colored black and white, to represent the stigma between the black man and the white man.
